The Institute for Healthcare Communications' Disclosing Unanticipated Medical Outcomes is an interactive workshop that examines the necessary elements of providing a timely and effective disclosure when an unexpected medical outcome occurs.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the program, participants will:

  1. Understand the rationale for greater openness when there has been disappointment with care and possible injury associated with a medical or systems error;
  2. Appreciate others’ perceptions of the situation (e.g., patients, family, colleagues, staff);
  3. Consider steps to take before, during and after a disappointing outcome;
  4. Acknowledge and respond constructively to the emotional and ethical challenges in these situations; and
  5. Practice disclosure skills in a variety of clinical situations.

Dinner will be served 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Program runs from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m

We look forward to seeing you at this exciting and highly valuable workshop. Space is limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come- first-serve basis.
